Small Town Ho The Hilarious Story of Moving from the Big City to North Idaho edition by Duke Diercks Humor Entertainment eBooks
In weighing the decision to move from a big city to across the country, I found this book and thought it might be a good and whimsical read. Being an Idaho fan and having read the book reviews, I thought this was going to be "laugh out loud" funny. I'm about halfway through the book, so far, and have all but lost interest. I thought the premise was the pros & cons of relocating, sort-of like a fish-out-of-water story. To wax on about working at a call center sort-of doesn't have much to do about relocating, in my humble and never-relocated opinion. I thought the part about the move itself was pretty funny, as well as his introduction into some of the locals' pastimes. I am going to barrel through the rest of this book, tho, in the hopes that I'll soon be laughing out loud just like the other reviewers said.Tags : Small Town Ho: The Hilarious Story of Moving from the Big City to North Idaho - Kindle edition by Duke Diercks. Small Town Ho The Hilarious Story of Moving from the Big City to North Idaho edition by Duke Diercks Humor Entertainment eBooks Reviews
This book is a light, easy read, and because I live in a small town with similar climate, I am very familiar with some of the things that occurred. Numerous times when we first moved to this town, I heard, "Oh, so you're Mrs. S.......!" I enjoyed the book about real life😊😊
I bought this book last year before moving from Connecticut to North Idaho to get a real perspective from another transplant. This book was spot on! I am so glad I read it. Besides learning quite a bit about the culture and the culture shock I was about to experience, I also was pleased to be reading such a funny "laugh out loud" book. I highly recommend this read!!!
Having lived or visited every place mentioned in the book, I had to chuckle at the "realness" of it all. I related so easily to the personalities and the culture of small town America. An amusing and comfortable read. Recommended!
While I can Identify with Diercks' acclimation to small-town living, the stories he told were neither comical nor unusual, just normal life.
So funny - I read it in a couple hours, couldn't put it down! As a resident of the slightly larger town located 45 minutes south of the author's town, and a transplant from a big city myself, Duke Diercks really nailed it when describing life and people in the North Idaho area - the good, the bad, the ugly, and the endearing. Brilliant humor - I laughed my ass off! You don't have to have ever visited Idaho though to find his story incredibly entertaining.
Just finished reading this book and thoroughly enjoyed it! You know it is good when you are reading all by yourself and you burst out laughing. The descriptions make you feel like you are right there on their adventure, observing these hilarious situations. Duke is also amazing at being transparent and vulnerable about himself and some of his life choices. It feels very real and honest. We all have our human foibles and he makes them funny. I search out comedy in every form and love it, when I can find it, in a book. I find humor is a healing escape for the hard reality of life. Some of my favorite comedic books have been A Walk in the Woods, Bill Bryson - Me Talk Pretty One Day, David Sedaris - The Rosie Project, Graeme Simsion and Dad is Fat - Jim Gaffigan. Duke's comedic writing style is as funny as these and I would say funnier. He really has a special gift. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a enjoyable read. Keep the books coming Duke. Your fans want more!
Got the winter blahs? Do not waste a minute -- order this book pronto. It is irreverent and belly-laughing funny. A real-life saga about a family who moves from California to Texas and then to Sandpoint, Idaho. Almost everything that can possibly go wrong for them does -- mostly due to "operator error". In one part of the book, after frustrating encounters with permit processes and equipment malfunctions, our "hero" buys a black lab puppy the very same week he is opening a new restaurant . . . You will double up with laughter at sections on the call center, trying to maintain a recently purchased old house, Brisket the dog, and other parts. I haven't laughed this hard in I can't remember when. The language is sometimes a little colorful especially when dealing with stupidity. Duke has the unique ability to laugh at himself, sometimes through his hidden tears. "Small Town HO" is a funny, funny, funny, feel good book about family, friends and the importance of a good support system.
