I love her TV show on public television, and had trouble writing down the recipes as she made them on TV, so I bought this, and was not disappointed. I've made 6 or so things and each one was fabulous and several recipes I make over and over because I love them. She's an engaging teacher and manages to bring a fresh approach to cooking and entertaining, and the scenery of New Zealand (esp. on the TV show) is breathtaking. My wife and I watch Annabel on public television and liked the recipes, so ordered the cookbook
I love this woman’s take on cooking. Her tv spots are great fun to watch and quite informative. Who else uses a China tea cup for measuring. She’s beautiful but down to earth and very inspirational.
These recipes are excellent and the photos are gorgeous.
I love this cooking show hostess. She's amazing. I love her book. The pictures are gorgeous and her recipes are delightful. I'm having to adjust for metric measurements, but that's a growth experience for me.
Over the years, I have used many cook books, but since our recent trip to New Zealand, I got hooked onto some of the recipes in Annabel Langbein's cook books. When I got home, I ordered her book entitled The Free Range cook and I have been using it ever since. The recipes are marvelous...easy to follow since there is a conversion page in the back. Her recipe for caramelized onion tarts was my most recent dish and my husband wants me to have it at least once a week. Her easy bread recipe is another winner. Actually, I think most of the recipes are winners. As an extra bonus, her pictures of New Zealand are stunning. I will order this book from as a gift item for my friends who love to cook.
Impossible to read. Recipes printed in grey ink against white background. Very hard to decipher.
This is the best cookbook I have ever read. I want to cook almost everything. Easy to follow recipes, easy to find the ingredients, it's just wonderful. Annabel is delightful, she explains things really well and offers several alternatives and ideas for what to do with the finished products. The photos are gorgeous and the narrative engaging. This is not a book full of complicated "I'll never make that" food, this is full of "I can do that, I want to do that" food! I recommend this cookbook to novices and experienced cooks alike. Not the same old stuff, but not weird or obscure stuff either. Just excellent new ways with familiar ingredients. Delicious.
I've bought a number of cookbooks in my life and no matter how accurate you follow the instruction - something is always missing. This book is refreshing. Annabel is genuine in wanting us to know how to cook the dishes she recommends. Her instructions are clear and comes with additional tips. Even if one doesn't know how to cook, one could succeed just by following the recipe. Her recipes are also simple (not overly elaborate like many other celebrity chefs), easy to make (comparatively), use easily attainable ingredients and VERY delicious. To me, this is what a cookbook should be. Simply fabulous!
