This cover model is YUMMY! Too bad he's not a character in the book. One thing I do know is this is NOT "Vig". Epic fail to the designer of this cover when it comes to representing the story. I'm not even sure a male should have been used on the cover at all. This book is not the usual Laurenston fare. The romance is barely a secondary plot line. As much as I loved Vig and Kera in their scenes together, they unfortunately were few and far between. We never really got to see the connection between the two grow, it just was. There was humor but not to the extent I had become used to with her books. This story is mainly sisterhood and girl power. I loved Kera, but she was a badass before becoming a Crow so I would have liked seeing her story more balanced with showing more vulnerability with Vig. And just a warning to those of you who are not a fan of violence...these are old school Norse Gods and their chosen....there is extensive and explicit violence. I don't mind it at all but once again, not exactly what I expected going into this book. It took a while to get into the groove with the other sister Crows. For a large portion of the book I found them annoying and was irritated every time we had to deal with Erin's POV. They eventually grew on me and by the end I mostly liked them. Fingers crossed Jace gets her own story in the future because she ended up being my favorite sister Crow. I will admit my absolute favorite character was Brodie Hawaii. Loved loved loved that dog. When she got her vengeance....bliss. I'll definitely pick up the next in the series, but now I'll have a better understanding of what I'm getting and adjust my expectations, because although I did like this book I'm aware that my enjoyment was negatively impacted because it wasn't what I anticipated it would be.

The Unleashing Call Of Crows Shelly Laurenston Books Reviews

I'll start off by saying I'm a fan of SL & G.A. Aiken huge fan. Loved her Dragon Kin and Pride series. I was nervous about this one. Its different. Its UF but not heavily compared to some that are out there. Book beginning to end I really liked it. Just like any other UF book 1 is the most difficult to get through. Mainly because of the story building and character building so yeah the first half was slow at times. I enjoyed it MUCH better at the 50% mark. I think the biggest problem I had was that Kera was overshadowed by the other characters. She's supposed to be the main character but she was overtaken by her fellow Crow-sisters. I really enjoyed reading about them more than Kera to be honest and thats a problem for a MC. I even liked reading about Vig more than her. Not that I didnt like Kera. I totally did cause she reminds me a little of Dee Ann Smith a character from her Pride series. She has a tremendous story about her BUT it was overshadowed by everything else.

I really liked Vig. He was sweet and he's shy but quite deadly. He's a viking so enough said. Had a little crush on Kera ever since he saw her. It was quite cute. Kera has a really hard time adjusting to her new life. She doesnt understand most things and just cant wrapping her head around the fact she's supposed to kill at will. Most of the time its a good reason but she doesnt know the answers or where the info is really coming from. Someone like her it just doesnt sit well. For someone who defends its difficult. Yeah she's a former Marine and killed when she had to but she knew the reasons. She likes having her own control and knowing all before jumping in head first. Her fellow Crows just arent detail oriented and organized like her. Its quite humorous to see her with clipboards. Who didnt love Brodie Hawaii? Love that dog! Its a really good story and it kept me engaged when the story came together better ar the halfway mark. Doesnt necessarily end on a cliffhanger but it's a continuing story and onto Jace's story. Lemme tell you that girl is awesome! I really like her and cant wait to read her.
This book is crazy and fun, and filled with hot Vikings! What's not to love?

This book seems like one of those books where you either love it or hate it, based on some of the reviews I've seen. If you couldn't tell by the 5 stars I gave this book, I'm on the side of loving it.

This book is the best kind of chaos. The characters are snarky, and bitchy, and are probably all a little crazy. These are my kind of people, I can relate. I really liked the relationship between the crows and that the book was very female-centric. The chracters were diverse and interesting and they had me laughing all the time. This book's tone is very upbeat, so I found myself enjoying it more and more as I read on.

I do have one drawback however. I feel like the different point of views for so many characters became a bit much, not all the characters needed a POV. Setting that point aside, I also feel like I was cheated out of getting more adorable Kera and Vig scenes, where Vig is being the giant teddy bear that he is.

It's hard to say that you'd definitely like this book if you read it, but if you love reading books with fun, crazy, loveable characters then you should definitely check this out, there's a high chance you'd enjoy it.
